Since 1994, the Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlengesellschaft mbH (MIBRAG – "Central German Brown Coal Company") in Theißen has developed into a reliable and forward-looking economic entity, which distinguishes itself thanks to its competitiveness, its safety and its stability. Its main areas of business are the extraction and sale of raw brown coal. The company’s investments make a large contribution to the creation of value in the region. With almost 2,100 employees, of which 140 are trainees, MIBRAG is one of the biggest employers in the border triangle between Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia.
MIBRAG operates the Profen and Vereinigtes Schleenhain modern opencast pits. The Deuben, Mumsdorf and Wählitz power stations provide it with its own power supply. The dust factory in Deuben caters for clients in the cement industry.
