Yanacocha is South America's largest gold producer. Because of its reserves, high production, and low operational costs, it is one of Newmont's main operations on a global scale. It is located 50 kilometres from the city of Cajamarca over 4,120 meters above sea level, in the mountains of Northern Peru. It produces over 49% of the country's gold and has five open pit deposits with about 10,000 employees.
