Southern Peru Copper Corporation (SPCC) is the fifth largest copper mining  company in the world, with significant copper reserves. SPCC needed an integrated system that was capable of covering the five main management areas of the company (operations, maintenance, logistics, finances, and HR), with the object of optimizing the efficiency of its resource management. After a thorough assessment, SPCC selected Ventyx Ellipse because it was the tool that best covered its management and integration requirements, and because its system naturally included the processes and practices of the mining business. As a result of the implementation of Ventyx Ellipse, SPCC achieved a reduction of 12% in maintenance costs and an increase of 7% in service levels without having to increase the spares and parts inventory.

The Company

Southern Peru is the fifth largest copper mining  company in the world, with significant copper reserves. Their mining operations are located in Peru, Mexico and Chile. They are  a leading integrated producer of concentrate, blister and refined copper; producing also  molybdenum concentrate, zinc concentrate and refined zinc, silver and gold. All of which make Southern Peru the largest mining corporation of Mexico and Peru.

The Challenge

SPCC needed an integrated system that was capable of covering the five main management areas of the company (Operations, Maintenance, Logistics, Finances, and Human Resources), with the object of optimizing the efficiency of its resource management.  When defining the tool that would suitably support SPCC’s vision, the company mapped all its business processes in each of its functional areas. The purpose was to assess and measure the various solutions available on the market: SAP, Mincom Ellipse, Peoplesoft, J.D.Edwards, Bann.
