Founded in 1904, Cristalerías Chile is the leading glass container manufacturing and marketing company in the country. With over 250 domestic and foreign customers in the wine, beer, soft drink, juice, mineral water, liquor, grocery and laboratory market, the company produces approximately 920 million containers, manufactured with state-of-the-art technology gauged to international quality standards, together with technical assistance from Owens-Illinois, world leader in production of glass containers.
Certified with the 2000 version of the ISO 2001 international standard for designing, producing and marketing glass containers and special glass containers, the company guarantees quality products which are developed by means of strict productive processes, and offers complementary services aimed at satisfying all its selected customer portfolio requirements.
With a market share of nearly 82%, the company is constantly searching for methods to optimize its production systems and efficiently manage its assets.
Maintenance is one of the critical areas of Cristalerías Chile. Given the high level of automation of its processes and the complex machinery used to manufacture different types of containers, spare part stock management plays a fundamental role in the company’s operation.
If adequate stock management is significant for all production companies, in the case of Cristalerías Chile it is essential in order to avoid non-scheduled downtime of the complex machinery used for manufacturing its products and the resulting financial loss.
Cristalerías Chile needed to find an intelligent solution for managing its spare part stock, which could also efficiently and seamlessly integrate with MAXIMO – its maintenance platform and SAP – used for finances, human resources and materials.
The company required a solution capable of optimizing the operational and financial processes, enabling accurate adjustments on purchases and a strict control over its spare parts inventory in order to avoid needless losses on overstock, or spare parts which are unnecessary, lost or in a state of disrepair. Moreover, information needed to be “democratized,” transversal and accessible to all those involved.
In its search for a solution that would accurately deliver graphical information of spare parts in a timely manner to all the maintenance processes involved, Cristalerías Chile chose Ventyx LinkOne, which thanks to its superior publication, distribution and visualization features, enables all electronic parts forms and service information to be available with a simple click within internet, intranet or other distributable means.
The solution was implemented at the Padre Hurtado plant, and then later at the new Llay Llay facility, considered one of the most modern in South America.
One of Ventyx LinkOne’s advantages is that it adapted perfectly to the Total Performance Management (TPM) strategy implemented by Cristalerías Chile, which focuses on operational efficiency and waste elimination. Thanks to the fact that both the TPM strategy and Ventyx LinkOne operate based on visual management mechanisms, the results of both were boosted.
As a project, the implementation of Ventyx LinkOne was a maintenance management milestone for Cristalerías Chile.
Nelson Cuello explains that "the implementation of Ventyx LinkOne, which was a project initiated by the maintenance area, required us to go through a comprehensive process of sorting and standardization throughout the area, and later transfer all critical information to the system with absolute certainty about data accuracy."
The result of this task has been very significant, as its successful implementation has substantially improved the company’s figures, and at same time it has made its processes much more efficient.
